A 24-year-old woman was detained at Bengaluru‘s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on February 11 after attempting to enter with a fraudulent ticket, reported Deccan Herald. The woman, who was scheduled to fly to Ranchi, had unknowingly fallen victim to a scam, as the ticket was issued by a booking agent she trusted.
The incident took place when the woman arrived at the Passenger Terminal Building Gate of Terminal 1 around 7:30 am. Her ticket indicated that she was booked on SpiceJet SG 320, a flight bound for Ranchi. However, SpiceJet SG 320 actually operates between Bengaluru and Guwahati, not Ranchi. Suspicious airline staff alerted the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), who escorted her to the police.
Upon questioning, the woman explained that she had contacted the agent through a recommendation from friends and had paid the full fare without verifying the authenticity of the ticket. Airline staff quickly identified the fraudulent ticket and questioned her about the booking process. After confirming she was duped by the agent, she was handed over to the police for further investigation.
The woman provided details of the booking process, and although she was not charged with severe offenses, the police issued a notice for her to supply the agent’s contact information and payment details. Following the inquiry, she was allowed to leave the station.
