Bengaluru: A 20-year-old woman tragically died after plunging from the 13th floor of an abandoned building in Parappana Agrahara, Bengaluru, on Saturday evening. Police reports indicate she fell into an elevator shaft while filming a social media reel.
The incident occurred at an under-construction structure that has remained vacant for nearly a decade due to an unresolved ownership conflict. The woman, along with a group of friends, accessed the site around 8 pm for a party. Shortly after the accident, a friend alerted emergency services. Police from the Hoysala patrol unit rushed to the location, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigation suggests an accidental fall, though a case of unnatural death has been registered. Officers are probing all aspects, including the safety of the building and the events leading up to the fall.
Sources revealed a possible argument among the friends, reportedly involving a relationship issue. Following this, the woman was said to be filming a “sad reel,” though police have not recovered any such video from her mobile phone. “We haven’t confirmed a motive yet. Everything is being thoroughly examined,” said DCP (South East) Fatima.
Questions have also been raised about the conduct of those present. Two male friends allegedly left before police arrived, while a female friend stayed to provide a statement.
Authorities are now investigating the building’s safety conditions and whether local bodies neglected to secure the dangerous site or post necessary warnings.
