Bengaluru: A 27-year-old man was allegedly tied up and burned alive by a woman he was in a relationship with at her residence in Anjananagar in Bengaluru on Tuesday afternoon, in a case police suspect to be premeditated.
The victim has been identified as Kiran (27), while the accused is Prema (27). The incident occurred around 2 pm under the jurisdiction of the Byadarahalli Police Station.
Alleged premeditated act
According to police, Kiran had visited Prema’s house when no one else was present. Investigators said the accused allegedly told him she would propose to him in a “western style.”
As part of the act, she reportedly tied his hands and legs with a rope and blindfolded him. When Kiran questioned the restraints, she is said to have assured him that it was part of the proposal.
Police allege that Prema then poured kerosene on him and set him on fire. Kiran died on the spot due to severe burn injuries.
Evidence points to planning
Investigators suspect that the crime was planned in advance, noting that kerosene had allegedly been kept ready beforehand. Authorities are also examining claims that the accused may have recorded the incident on her mobile phone.
Police said they are gathering forensic evidence and analysing digital data to establish the sequence of events and confirm the extent of planning involved.
Relationship angle under probe
Police sources said both Kiran and Prema worked together at a Vi store near Bashyam Circle in Rajajinagar, where they became acquainted and later entered into a relationship.
Investigators believe tensions had recently developed between the two, with the accused reportedly upset over Kiran allegedly ignoring her.
On the day of the incident, Kiran had reportedly gone to pick up Prema in connection with work related to a new Vi connection near Nelamangala. The two later went to her residence in the Gadde Khan area, where the crime took place.
Police investigation underway
D L Nagesh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West), confirmed that a murder case has been registered and that the accused has been taken into custody.
Senior officers, including ACP Ashok and Inspector Bhaskar, visited the crime scene as part of the investigation.
Police are now working to piece together the exact motive behind the crime, including the nature of the relationship and the circumstances leading up to the incident.
Conclusion
The shocking nature of the incident has raised concerns about violent crimes stemming from personal relationships. As the investigation progresses, authorities are focusing on uncovering the motive and verifying evidence related to premeditation.
The case is expected to proceed following detailed forensic analysis and further interrogation of the accused.
