A Bengaluru woman has sparked a debate on privacy, professional conduct and the use of personal information after alleging that a police officer contacted her on WhatsApp more than a year after she had shared her phone number while filing a complaint.

The woman detailed the incident on social media platform X, where she questioned whether it was appropriate for an officer to use contact information obtained during official duties to initiate personal communication.

According to the woman, she had lodged a police complaint on August 31, 2025, and had communicated with officers through WhatsApp as part of the investigation process.

More than a year later, she claimed that one of the officers contacted her unexpectedly through the same number. She also alleged that the officer activated privacy settings on WhatsApp, including disappearing messages and advanced chat privacy features, before initiating the conversation.

The woman shared screenshots of the exchange on social media, where the officer allegedly sent a simple greeting before stating that he had messaged her because he remembered her.
