A new public campaign titled ‘Zero Dengue Starts with Me’ was launched in Bengaluru on Tuesday, urging residents to take proactive steps to combat mosquito-borne dengue. The campaign focuses on simple preventive measures such as eliminating stagnant water, using mosquito repellents and nets, and covering water tanks to prevent breeding.
The initiative is spearheaded by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in partnership with Rotary Bangalore Midtown (RBM) and health-tech startup EcoBio Traps.
A key feature of the campaign is the promotion of ovitraps — eco-friendly, biodegradable buckets designed to interrupt the mosquito breeding cycle. Each ovitrap is effective over an area of 500 sq ft and decomposes naturally within 30 days. Users simply fill the bucket with water and place it in shaded outdoor areas. These traps are available online for around ₹300 each.
RBM president Palani Loganathan stated the campaign gained urgency after the Karnataka High Court took suo motu cognisance of the surge in dengue cases across the state last year.
