Bengaluru’s Ejipura flyover gets a fantasy makeover, internet reacts
Bengaluru’s infamous Ejipura flyover, long criticized for its stalled construction, has resurfaced online—this time in an imaginative, dreamy transformation. A viral AI-generated image, shared by the X (formerly Twitter) account Peak Bengaluru, reimagines the unfinished structure in a magical, nature-filled setting reminiscent of Studio Ghibli’s animated worlds. Sarcastically dubbed the “Ejipura Stonehenge Elevated Corridor,” the post pokes fun at its never-ending delays.
Social media users responded with a mix of wit and exasperation. Some mockingly suggested UNESCO should recognize it as a heritage site, while others expressed frustration over traffic congestion caused by the incomplete project. One commuter humorously noted that they are always “trapped at this scenic spot” during rush hour. Others lamented the drastic loss of greenery, pointing out that the depicted trees have long been removed.
The Ejipura flyover, spanning 2.5 km, has been under construction since 2017 but remains far from completion. Work halted in 2019 due to the contractor’s financial collapse, and further complications with land acquisition have prolonged the delay. Originally planned for completion in 2019 at a budget of ₹204 crore, the deadline has been pushed multiple times, with the latest promise of March 2024 now unmet.
With no clear completion date in sight, citizens continue to endure gridlocked roads and unfulfilled government assurances, making this project a symbol of Bengaluru’s worsening infrastructure woes.
