Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road (ORR), notorious for its frequent traffic jams, was the focus of a joint inspection on Thursday, conducted by the ORR Companies Association (ORRCA) along with key civic authorities. The inspection included an early morning drive from Silk Board to KR Puram to assess critical infrastructure challenges and discuss solutions for improving road conditions, traffic flow, and commuter convenience.

The inspection reaffirmed the commitment to the Zero-Pothole Drive, with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) ensuring regular road maintenance and swift pothole repairs to improve commuting ease. In addition, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has promised to complete its pipeline work by March 2025. The board also assured that it would restore roads dug up for pipeline installations overnight, prioritizing quality and road usability.

To ease traffic congestion, the Bangalore Traffic Police have been instructed to take stronger action against illegal parking on service roads and footpaths, a key factor contributing to traffic jams. Simultaneously, BBMP will undertake an encroachment removal drive to clear unauthorized structures along the ORR, improving pedestrian access and overall road efficiency.

In a major boost to public transport, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) confirmed that the KR Puram to Silk Board Metro line is on track for completion by June 2026. Once operational, the metro will provide a significant alternative to road travel, helping to reduce traffic congestion.

These measures, part of a larger initiative to improve ORR’s infrastructure, are expected to enhance connectivity and streamline commuting for thousands of daily travelers. The collaboration between ORRCA and key civic agencies marks an important step towards resolving long-standing issues and creating sustainable urban mobility solutions.
