Bidar: A constable named Dhanaraj, attached to the New Town Police Station in Bidar, was suspended on Sunday for assaulting a female Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Mallamma, who was on duty.

The incident occurred during a mandatory Kannada language exam for Revenue Department’s Village Administration Officers on Sunday. PSI Mallamma was assigned as the supervising officer at the R.R.K. College exam center in Madhav Nagar. Constable Dhanaraj, who was also assigned to the same center for security duty, arrived significantly late.

When PSI Mallamma questioned Dhanaraj about his tardiness, he allegedly assaulted her. District Superintendent of Police Pradeep Gunti stated, “The constable has been suspended for indiscipline and for assaulting a superior officer.”

PSI Mallamma, who was admitted to BRIMS hospital, said, “When I questioned the constable about his late arrival, he grabbed my shirt and neck area and pushed me against a neem tree, disregarding that I am both a superior officer and a woman. I have suffered severe head injuries. An X-ray has revealed blood clotting. After receiving initial treatment at BRIMS, I am now heading to Bengaluru for further medical care.”

The incident has raised concerns about discipline within the police force and the safety of female officers on duty. An investigation into the matter is likely to follow.
