BJP Accuses Congress Leaders, Officials of Conspiracy Against LoP
In a dramatic political escalation, BJP national general secretary (Karnataka in-charge) Radha Mohan Das Agarwal on Wednesday demanded stringent action against Minister Priyank Kharge, Kalaburagi DC Fouzia Taranum, and SP Adduru Srinivasulu, accusing them of plotting to murder Chalavady Narayanaswamy, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council.
This follows a controversial statement by BJP MLC N Ravikumar, who suggested that DC Taranum “may have come from Pakistan” — a remark he later formally retracted. Agarwal insisted the ball was now in the Congress government’s court, stating, “We’ll wait to see what action is taken.”
The BJP’s accusations stem from a recent incident in Kalaburagi, where Congress supporters allegedly gheraoed a government guest house, temporarily preventing Narayanaswamy from exiting. The guest house incident, which occurred during a Tiranga Yatra, reportedly escalated as police failed to intervene early, letting the crowd grow before detaining participants.
Kalaburagi is a political stronghold of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyank Kharge’s father. Agarwal blamed the police and district officials for endangering Narayanaswamy’s life and called for the removal of both the DC and SP.
DC Fouzia Taranum, a 2015-batch IAS officer, was recently honoured with the Best Electoral Practices Award by the President of India. Following Ravikumar’s comments, the IAS Officers’ Association of Karnataka strongly condemned the statement and demanded a full apology from the BJP leader.
