Bengaluru will soon unveil its first air-conditioned underground market, Palike Bazaar, located in Vijayanagar. Modeled after New Delhi’s Palika Bazaar, this new market is set to open by the end of August, conveniently situated near the Vijayanagar Metro station.
The market will span 100 meters in length and 11 meters in width, featuring over 75 shops on each side of a 3-meter-wide pedestrian corridor. Built under the Nagarothana scheme with a ₹5 crore budget, it includes modern amenities such as sensor-operated sliding doors, escalators, and an elevator. A specialized pipeline system will manage rainwater to prevent flooding.
Originally a bustling area with over 150 vendors, the old service road has been transformed into this contemporary underground space. Vijayanagar MLA M Krishnappa confirmed that final touches are underway, and the market is expected to open by the end of the month.
