Bengaluru, renowned for its IT and startup culture, is also a city steeped in scientific heritage. Beginning this Saturday, Science Gallery Bengaluru invites the public to explore its rich scientific past through the flagship exhibition, Sci560. This exhibit, running until the end of the year, chronicles the city’s evolution from a peaceful garden city to a major industrial and technological hub.
Jahnavi Phalkey, Director of Science Gallery Bengaluru, describes Sci560 as a journey through the ‘long 20th century,’ starting from the late 19th century to the present. The exhibition delves into Bengaluru’s transformation into a ‘military-industrial-academic complex,’ drawing parallels to Silicon Valley’s innovative and aerospace-driven history.
The exhibition features key exhibits such as the HAL HT-2, India’s first domestically-designed aircraft from 1951, highlighting the collaboration between academia and industry. Another notable display is the Bangalore Torpedo, rooted in early 20th-century weaponry with historical ties to Tipu Sultan’s era.
Sci560 also offers interactive workshops, lectures, and live experiments throughout its run, allowing visitors to engage directly with scientific concepts and processes. These programs are designed to immerse attendees in the scientific advancements that have shaped Bengaluru into the leading science and technology city it is today.
