Mangaluru: Mangaluru International Airport reaffirmed its commitment to aviation security with the Aviation Security Culture Week celebration that got underway on July 31. The celebration is in sync with the directive given by Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to all stakeholders in the aviation industry to reinforce the idea that aviation security is everyone’s business. The celebration which consists of a series of activities, underscores the tagline – See It, Say It, Secure It.
Virendra Mohan Joshi, Chief Airport Security Officer and senior commandant, Airport Security Group, CISF who inaugurated the celebration said, “(Aviation sector) Safety is collective endeavour. With Independence Day coming ahead, security apparatus across the nation, airports included will be on high alert. It is my earnest request for all to be vigilant and inform CISF about anything that you may find amiss so that we can always do our best to provide security.”
Mukesh Nankani, Chief Airport Officer, Mangaluru International Airport advised all stakeholders to imbibe safety as a culture. “It is important for all to follow the process laid out by BCAS and CISF to ensure that there is no compromise on aviation security,” he said. Monesh K G, Chief Security Officer, MIA gave an overview of the various security initiatives launched at the airport and those in the pipeline with a firm commitment to implementing it as per schedule.
The airport will conduct a quiz competition, an awareness campaign for non-security personnel, awareness of security culture for stakeholders, security awareness for passengers, a demonstration by the dog squad of CISF, exhibitions and demonstrations to showcase the latest security technologies and solutions during the week. Stakeholders with outstanding contributions to aviation security will be recognized at the valedictory function on August 5.
MIA has set up selfie points at vantage locations to drive home the message of aviation culture safety week. Security badges and lapel pins will be distributed to passengers. A quiz on aviation safety will also be conducted for passengers. To mark the event, the airport also conducted a mock drill simulating the crash of an aircraft carrying hazardous chemicals under the aegis of CISF. Various state agencies participated in the drill to assess preparedness.
