What began as an unimaginable personal loss became the turning point of Meghali Gupta’s life. On February 13, 2013, she lost her husband Mohit Gupta in a tragic road accident. He was just 32. Within days, Meghali had to step into a 230-year-old jewellery legacy — not by choice, but by responsibility.
Married into the family behind Shri Ram Hari Ram Jewellers, a heritage brand tracing its roots to the era of Bahadur Shah Zafar, Meghali had never planned to run a business. Born into an affluent family, she had once dreamt of studying fashion design abroad. Instead, she found herself balancing grief, motherhood and business leadership.
Learning from the ground up
Returning to work just 15 days after her husband’s passing, Meghali immersed herself in understanding every aspect of the jewellery trade — operations, design, customer relations and team management.
“It was not originally my business. I had to earn my place,” she recalls.
Initially, senior employees who had served the company for decades were hesitant to accept her leadership. Meghali chose humility over authority, learning patiently and proving her commitment. Gradually, respect followed.
Strength in support
As a single mother, she credits her sister-in-law and parents for helping raise her young son during the most challenging years. Emotional resilience became her greatest strength.
Today, Meghali stands as a designer and entrepreneur who blends heritage craftsmanship with contemporary innovation. She has served as a jury member for the Jewellery Eminence Awards for three consecutive years from 2022 to 2024.
A message of resilience
Her journey is not merely about inheriting a legacy, but about building credibility through perseverance.
Her advice to women facing sudden responsibility is simple: start with humility, seek support, keep learning and never allow circumstances to define your limits.
Meghali Gupta’s story reflects that while adversity may test one’s spirit, resilience and purpose can transform even the darkest chapters into defining triumphs.
