Temporary workforce demand is poised to hit unprecedented highs this summer, driven by sectors like quick commerce, e-commerce, consumer electronics, hospitality, FMCG, logistics, and manufacturing. Major staffing agencies including Quess, CIEL HR, TeamLease, and ManpowerGroup report a surge, projecting a 10-20% overall industry growth compared to last year, with some companies expecting up to a 65% rise individually.
Heatwave warnings are further fuelling demand for AC and refrigerator service technicians, alongside gig roles like delivery personnel, particularly as the Indian Premier League boosts order volumes. Estimates suggest over 100,000 temporary and gig roles will be added, with around 35,000-40,000 temp hires between March and June 2025.
Aditya Narayan Mishra of CIEL HR confirms, “Temp hiring this summer has jumped by nearly 65% for us, setting a new benchmark.” Key sectors like consumer durables, electronics, logistics, edtech, tourism, and retail are aggressively expanding their workforce to meet increased consumer demand, tech-driven efficiency, and peak enrolment periods.
Companies like Flipkart, Amazon, Swiggy, Zepto, Samsung, Voltas, and Whirlpool are ramping up hiring for delivery, manufacturing, after-sales service, and in-store roles. Hospitality players are also seeking chefs, kitchen staff, and front desk teams to meet tourism spikes.
However, high attrition and intense competition are leading firms to offer perks like performance bonuses, joining incentives, flexible schedules, and even “cooling allowances” to attract and retain talent.
