The Karnataka government has introduced an innovative initiative, “Akka Cafes,” under the National Livelihood Campaign to generate income for women self-help groups (SHGs) and foster financial independence.

Medical Education and Skill Development Minister Sharan Prakash Patil announced plans to establish 50 Akka Cafes statewide, with each receiving a subsidy of approximately ₹15 lakh. The first cafe was inaugurated in Belagavi’s Zilla Panchayat premises, with another operational in Bengaluru. Managed by SHGs, these cafes aim to provide sustainable livelihoods for women.

Minister Patil highlighted the government’s focus on empowering women through self-reliance schemes and encouraged women to utilize such opportunities.

In addition, an “Avasara” outlet at Belagavi airport showcases products crafted by Sanjeevini SHGs. Women and Child Welfare Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar urged the public to support these initiatives and contribute to women’s empowerment.
