The arrival of mango season has excited fruit lovers, but the scorching heat has discouraged many from visiting markets. Instead, online orders for the “king of fruits” are booming, with quick-commerce platforms like Zepto, BigBasket, and Swiggy delivering Alphonso, Badami, Lalbagh, and Totapuri in just ten minutes.
Traditionally, shoppers would inspect mangoes for texture, color, and aroma. Now, convenience trumps custom. “I craved mangoes late at night and ordered Ratnagiri Hapus online. They arrived fresh and paired perfectly with vanilla ice cream,” said Saloni T from Kondhwa.
For some, knowing the source is a major advantage. Drashti Parekh from Baner orders directly from Ratnagiri farmers, ensuring organic quality and a replacement guarantee. However, not all customers are convinced. “My neighbor’s online order was sour, with one mango spoilt. I prefer selecting them myself,” said Shilpa Nadkarni from Aundh.
BigBasket reports a twofold increase in mango sales compared to last year. Seller Tanishq Dere, who sources from Bhimashankar, Ratnagiri, and Devgad, sells 1,500 dozen mangoes daily, priced between ₹1,000–₹2,200 per dozen. Supply challenges arose due to early summer, but demand remains high.
With buyers wary of market fraud, direct-from-farm online sales are set to rise. As peak season approaches, mango lovers have plenty of options at their fingertips!
