New Delhi: The OnePlus 8 Pro, the latest of the Flagship smartphones to be launched in India reportedly sold out within a few minutes of the launch, and several potential buyers were disappointed despite waiting for several days.
The calls for the boycott of Chinese goods, following the Ladakh skirmish, have resulted in the Indian market grabbing what could possibly be the last of the Chinese goods in the Indian market for a long time
The Chinese smartphone brands are at present the backbone of the Indian market, which by itself is possibly the largest in the world. With Indian manufacturers like Micromax, Lava, and Karbonn in deep financial trouble after the entry of the Chinese brands, Chinese mobiles marketed under brands Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus and Realme (all incidentally owned by the Chinese BBK Company) and Xiaomi, accounted at least half of the total smartphone market in India, and almost the complete budget phone market.
With the exit of the Chinese, the Indian firms will have to get their act together very quickly to build a sustainable presence and supply phones in sufficient quantities to the Indian market. This is an opportunity they can hardly afford to lose, and with the ‘Make in India’, and ‘Aatmanirbhar’ campaigns our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been talking and reminding everyone about, they should be able to do it.
This is a testing time for them, and if they are not able to step into action right now their future will be as good as finished. With all the inspiration and support the Prime Minister has been repeatedly giving the private sector, they should be able to do it and carve out a market that is secure in future without dependence on any foreign produce. This will enable them to avenge the total rout they had to face in the market when the Chinese came in.
