New Delhi: Paytm has expanded the use of its Digital Gold offering by partnering with jewellery retailer CaratLane, allowing customers to use their accumulated digital gold towards jewellery purchases directly through the Paytm app.

The partnership gives Paytm users access to CaratLane’s jewellery catalogue while creating a new way to use digital gold beyond simply holding or saving it. Customers can select jewellery through Paytm, redeem their available Digital Gold towards the purchase and pay any remaining amount through other payment options.

The development effectively connects digital gold savings with physical jewellery consumption, bringing gold accumulation, jewellery selection, payment and delivery into a single digital journey.

How Paytm Digital Gold can be used for jewellery

Under the new arrangement, customers can browse CaratLane jewellery on the Paytm app and use their accumulated Paytm Digital Gold towards the purchase.

If the value of the jewellery is higher than the available digital gold balance, the difference can be paid through Paytm UPI, credit cards, debit cards, net banking and other available payment methods.

For example, if a customer has accumulated digital gold worth ₹20,000 and chooses jewellery priced at ₹30,000, the available gold value can be used towards the purchase, with the remaining ₹10,000 paid separately, subject to the applicable transaction terms.

This gives existing Paytm Gold users another way to put their accumulated holdings to use without having to separately sell the digital gold and then make a jewellery purchase.

CaratLane jewellery available across categories

The partnership covers a range of CaratLane jewellery categories.

Customers can browse products including:

  • Rings
  • Earrings
  • Pendants
  • Necklaces
  • Bangles
  • Bracelets

The catalogue is intended to cover different occasions and price points, including everyday jewellery, gifting, weddings and festive purchases. Paytm said applicable making charges and GST will be displayed before customers complete their purchase.

Displaying these charges before payment gives customers visibility into the total purchase cost rather than limiting the displayed price to the jewellery’s base value.

CaratLane will handle delivery

The partnership also covers the fulfilment process.

Once a customer places an order through Paytm, CaratLane will manage packaging, fulfilment and home delivery across its serviceable pin codes. Customers can access order confirmation, tracking and purchase details through Paytm.

This means Paytm is effectively providing the digital storefront and payment ecosystem, while CaratLane handles the jewellery fulfilment and delivery infrastructure.

For Paytm, the arrangement creates an additional commerce use case for Digital Gold. For CaratLane, it provides another digital channel through which its jewellery catalogue can reach customers.

Paytm expands the role of Digital Gold

Paytm Digital Gold has traditionally been positioned as a way for customers to accumulate small quantities of gold digitally.

According to Paytm, customers can make one-time purchases or use daily, weekly and monthly SIP options to build their gold holdings. The company’s Digital Gold offering is based on 24K pure gold fulfilled by MMTC-PAMP, with the underlying gold stored in insured vaults.

The new CaratLane partnership changes the use case by connecting the digital holding with a physical jewellery purchase.

Veer Mishra, Vice President at Paytm, said the company was introducing jewellery shopping through its partnership with CaratLane to extend Paytm Digital Gold from saving to jewellery purchases.

The move could make digital gold more relevant to customers who eventually want to convert their accumulated gold value into jewellery.

What customers need to know

The new facility does not mean that digital gold can be used to purchase any jewellery from any retailer through Paytm. The current arrangement specifically connects Paytm Digital Gold with eligible CaratLane jewellery available through the Paytm platform.

Customers can open the Paytm app, access the Jewellery section and browse the available CaratLane catalogue. After selecting a product, they can redeem their available Paytm Gold towards the purchase and pay the balance using another supported payment method if required.

The purchase price includes applicable jewellery-related charges such as making charges and GST, which Paytm says will be displayed before purchase.

As with any jewellery transaction, customers should review the final price, gold weight, making charges, taxes, delivery information and applicable terms before confirming an order.

Digital gold and jewellery are different products

The development also highlights the distinction between holding digital gold and purchasing jewellery.

Digital gold represents a gold holding, while jewellery is a finished physical product that includes additional costs such as making charges and applicable taxes. Paytm says its Digital Gold purchases do not carry making or wastage charges, whereas jewellery purchases do have applicable making charges and GST.

Therefore, redeeming digital gold towards jewellery should not be viewed simply as exchanging an identical amount of gold for the same quantity of jewellery.

The final jewellery price depends on the selected product and applicable charges.

What the partnership means for Paytm and CaratLane

For Paytm, the partnership adds a new commercial use for a product that has primarily been associated with digital gold savings.

Instead of limiting Digital Gold to accumulation, selling or conversion-related options, the company can now connect the holding with a retail purchase through its own app.

For CaratLane, the partnership provides access to Paytm’s large digital payments and customer ecosystem while allowing its jewellery catalogue to be distributed through another online channel.

Paytm said the partnership combines its payments and Digital Gold capabilities with CaratLane’s jewellery expertise and fulfilment network.

CaratLane is a jewellery brand and a wholly owned subsidiary of Titan Company Limited. Its involvement gives the initiative an established jewellery retail and fulfilment network.

A new digital-to-physical gold journey

The partnership reflects a broader shift in how consumers can use digital financial and retail platforms for traditional purchases.

Gold has long played an important role in Indian households, particularly for weddings, festivals, gifting and long-term savings. Digital platforms have increasingly made it possible to buy small quantities of gold without immediately purchasing physical jewellery.

Paytm’s latest arrangement attempts to bridge those two behaviours.

A customer can accumulate digital gold over time and eventually use the holding towards a physical jewellery purchase. The process does not eliminate the costs associated with jewellery, but it provides another payment route for customers who already have Paytm Digital Gold.

Conclusion: Paytm’s partnership with CaratLane gives Digital Gold a new practical use by allowing accumulated holdings to be redeemed towards jewellery purchases. Customers can browse CaratLane products through Paytm, use their available Digital Gold and pay any balance through UPI, cards or other supported methods. With CaratLane handling fulfilment and delivery, the partnership creates an integrated digital-to-physical jewellery buying experience.
