Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, often called the Silicon Beach of India, are rapidly establishing themselves as rising IT hubs. In 2024 alone, over 45 IT companies, including major players like NCR Atleos, Infosys BPO, Hexaware, and BOSE Engineering, have set up offshore centres in the region, driving employment and innovation.

According to Mohammed Hanif, CTO at Novigo Solutions and part of the Silicon Beach campaign, the number of IT firms in the coastal belt has surged from 150 pre-Covid to over 250. Factors like skilled talent, 8-10% lower operational costs, and a thriving ecosystem have made the region attractive for IT giants, especially during global economic uncertainties.

Roopalaxmi Pedamale of NCR Atleos highlighted the region’s unique advantages, including employee loyalty, work-life balance, and reduced pollution compared to metropolitan areas. Infosys BPO alone has recruited 1,000 employees and plans to double its workforce soon.

The region’s IT exports have already surpassed ₹4,500 crore and are projected to reach ₹6,500 crore within a year. Entrepreneurs like Rohith Bhat of 99Games foresee further growth, with new IT parks slated for 2025 and 2026, increasing offline job opportunities from 2,000 to 5,000. Currently, around 30,000 IT professionals work remotely from Dakshina Kannada.

This blend of talent, affordability, and infrastructure is cementing the coastal districts as India’s next IT powerhouse.
