With Bengaluru reaching saturation point, Tumakuru — located just 60 km away — is presenting itself as a viable alternative for IT and ITeS companies looking to expand or relocate. The district administration has launched an initiative to collect data on tech professionals commuting daily from Tumakuru to Bengaluru, aiming to build a case for shifting business operations.
This week, the administration shared a data collection form on social media, asking tech employees to provide their company names and how often they travel between the two cities. The response was swift — details of over 150 IT companies were received within two days, according to Deputy Commissioner Subha Kalyan.
“We plan to share this data with IT department director Rahul SS and reach out to these companies via email. Interested firms are welcome to connect with us directly,” said Subha. She added that the goal is to encourage companies to either open branches or fully move operations to Tumakuru, especially since over 5,000 techies make the daily commute.
The plan, shaped after consultations with IT secretary Ekroop Caur and KDEM CEO Sanjeev Gupta, emphasizes Tumakuru’s readiness. The city has fully-equipped office spaces, coworking hubs, and better connectivity to Kempegowda International Airport via dedicated roads.
Industrial zones at Vasanthanarasapura (phases 4, 5, and 6) are nearing completion and ready to accommodate IT firms. Relocating to Tumakuru offers major savings on rent, logistics, and daily expenses.
