WhatsApp introduces festive features and enhanced calling experience

Meta-owned WhatsApp has launched exciting new features for the festive season, including special New Year-themed calling effects, stickers, and more. These features will be available from December 20 to January 3, 2025, but only to users who update to the latest version of the app.

The holiday updates include several fun additions. WhatsApp now offers a New Year-inspired background for video calls, along with fresh filters and effects to add to the festive spirit. For reactions, users can enjoy animated celebration emojis with a “confetti explosion” that appears for both the sender and recipient.

In addition, a set of New Year-themed stickers and customized avatar stickers are now available to share in chats.

WhatsApp has also focused on improving its calling features. Users can now choose specific participants when initiating a call from a group chat, ensuring only the selected members are added, sparing others from unnecessary interruptions. Desktop users benefit from improved calling options, including the ability to create a call link or use a dial pad to directly dial numbers.

Video calling has been enhanced with higher resolution options available on both mobile and desktop apps. Users can also enjoy a variety of over ten video call effects, including playful filters like underwater visuals and puppy ears.

These updates bring even more fun and functionality to WhatsApp’s calling and chatting experiences.
