Zepto, the popular quick commerce company, is facing scrutiny once again after a shocking claim was made by Tejash Padia, a Rapido executive, who discovered price discrepancies for the same product on different devices. Padia shared his findings in a LinkedIn post, revealing that Zepto displayed two different prices for one kilogram of onions.

To conduct his experiment, Padia tested five different mobile phones, placing the same onion pack in the cart. Two devices showed the price as Rs 35/kg, while three others listed the price at Rs 64/kg. He went on to caution consumers, stating, “At Zepto, you are paying a very high price for being loyal to the brand,” tagging Zepto’s co-founders Aadit Palicha and Kaivalya Vohra, along with COO Vikas Sharma.

Padia dismissed common explanations for price differences, such as iOS vs. Android pricing, surge pricing, or Zepto Pass membership. His experiment, conducted at night, ruled out the effect of peak-hour price fluctuations. Padia concluded that frequent users, those who ordered more than 15 times a week, were shown the higher price, while less frequent users saw the lower price.

This controversy comes on the heels of a similar incident last month, where users reported price differences between iPhone and Android users for the same product.
