Food delivery platform Zomato has entered into a strategic partnership with Amazon Pay, allowing users to earn Zomato Money when they pay for food orders using their Amazon Pay Balance. The collaboration is aimed at boosting prepaid wallet usage while encouraging repeat orders through platform-linked rewards.

How the rewards system works

Under the partnership, customers paying via Amazon Pay Balance will earn Zomato Money on eligible transactions. Users will receive 3 per cent back on orders placed from Monday to Friday, while weekend orders on Saturdays and Sundays will earn a higher 5 per cent reward.

The accumulated Zomato Money can be redeemed on future food orders on the platform, creating a closed-loop rewards system designed to increase customer engagement and loyalty.

To avail the offer, users need to link their Amazon Pay Balance to their Zomato account either through payment settings or during checkout. Customers must also select the relevant promotional code from Zomato’s offer wall before completing the transaction.

Expanding prepaid wallet usage

Funds can be added to the Amazon Pay Balance through UPI, debit cards, credit cards or net banking, making it accessible to a wide range of users. Industry analysts say the partnership brings together Zomato’s large food-ordering base and Amazon Pay’s stored-balance ecosystem, which could significantly raise the share of prepaid transactions on the platform.

For Zomato, prepaid payments reduce transaction friction and improve repeat usage. For Amazon Pay, the tie-up strengthens everyday spending use cases beyond e-commerce, positioning its wallet as a regular payment option for food and daily services.

What the companies said

Rahul Gupta, Vice-President of Product at Zomato, said the partnership aligns with the company’s mission of “better food for more people” by making food ordering more convenient and rewarding for customers.

Vikas Bansal, CEO of Amazon Pay India, said the collaboration is focused on delivering “trusted and effortless payments” while offering users instant and tangible benefits through rewards.

What customers should note

Customers are advised to check Zomato’s offer wall for details such as minimum order values, caps on rewards and validity periods before planning future redemptions. These conditions may vary based on location, time or promotional cycles.

As competition intensifies in India’s food delivery and digital payments space, such partnerships underline how platforms are increasingly using wallet-based incentives to drive customer stickiness and transaction frequency.
