The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has approached the court to request the transfer of at least 20 rowdies from prisons outside Bengaluru. Among those targeted for transfer are Wilson Garden Naga and Ittamadu Sagar, according to a well-placed source.
Background:
- Action Taken: The Bengaluru police have invoked the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act (KCOCA) against 96 individuals involved in criminal activities, aiming to curb rowdyism and gang-related activities.
- Reason for Transfer Request: Police have observed that rowdy sheeters lodged in the same prison barracks may be coordinating their criminal activities and issuing directives to their accomplices outside. To disrupt this, the CCB has requested the relocation of these individuals to prevent further coordination and influence from within prison.
Statements:
- B Dayananda, Bengaluru Police Commissioner: Emphasized the use of all legal means to control rowdy activities in the city.
- Senior CCB Officer: Noted that the transfer request aims to hinder organized crime by separating gang members who might otherwise plan criminal operations while in prison.
The move reflects ongoing efforts by law enforcement to manage and mitigate the influence of organized crime within the prison system and beyond.
