The State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) has initiated an investigation concerning a bus crew accused of forcibly removing a female passenger from a Tamil Nadu government bus late at night. Disciplinary measures are anticipated against the conductor and driver involved in the incident.
The victim, a teacher from Kozhikode employed at a private college in Sriperumbudur, reported that the bus staff disregarded her safety concerns, compelling her to exit the bus during a nighttime journey from Bengaluru to Chennai on Monday. A video capturing the incident has since gained significant attention online.
The altercation reportedly started when the conductor demanded the exact fare of ₹420. The passenger provided ₹500, leading to a heated dispute as the conductor insisted on precise change, which she did not possess. The conflict intensified, with the conductor reportedly becoming rude and unhelpful. Despite her repeated appeals to be dropped near her college, he refused. In the video, the woman highlighted the risks of being left on the highway late at night, but her concerns were ignored. When she threatened to file a complaint, the staff allegedly retorted, “Do whatever you want,” before abandoning her at a secluded spot known for unsavory activities.
In response to the complaint, SETC has begun a comprehensive investigation, utilizing the lecturer’s recorded evidence and testimonials. Managing Director R. Mohan emphasized that bus conductors must ensure passenger safety during late-night journeys and confirmed that appropriate disciplinary action would follow.
