Authorities in Varadahalli, Chikkaballapur, have intensified bird flu containment measures, conducting house-to-house collection of chickens for culling. Villagers are demanding compensation for their losses as officials work to prevent the spread of H5N1 avian influenza.

The Ajjavara gram panchayat has been making public announcements urging poultry owners to cooperate. On Friday, eight more chickens died at a local farm, bringing total deaths to 16 in two days. Deputy Commissioner P.N. Ravindra has ordered the veterinary department to expedite the culling process.

Over 400 chickens from 90 village households have been culled and buried in a lime-treated pit. Some residents are reluctant to surrender their birds, but officials aim to convince them by Saturday.

Meanwhile, concerns remain as 10,000 chickens were transported to Bengaluru just before the outbreak was confirmed. Health and revenue officials continue sanitization efforts, checking vehicles at village entry points, and enforcing strict biosecurity measures.
