As relentless monsoon showers continue to drench Chikkamagaluru, one of Karnataka’s top tourist destinations, the district police have stepped up safety measures to protect visitors and locals alike. Superintendent of Police Vikram Amathe has deployed officers at key locations and issued strict safety advisories.

Heavy downpours, particularly in the Western Ghats, have made areas like Rani Jhari, Charmadi Ghat, and the riverbanks of Bhadra and Tunga hazardous. Roads leading to popular spots such as Bababudan Giri are also risky, with tourists often stopping to enjoy waterfalls formed by the rains. Despite warnings, the district continues to attract a large number of nature lovers.

The SP has urged tourists to refrain from visiting waterfalls or trekking near slippery rocks and moss-laden paths during intense rainfall. Visitors are also advised to stay clear of water bodies and not attempt to cross barricades or indulge in risky behavior.

Tourists have been asked to dress appropriately for the weather and wear non-slip footwear. Police have strictly warned against taking selfies or videos close to edges of rivers or waterfalls, where accidents can occur quickly. Reckless acts or entering turbulent waters is strongly discouraged.

Drivers have been advised to proceed cautiously through hilly and rain-hit areas. In case of emergencies, travellers are encouraged to dial 112.

SP Amathe confirmed that patrolling has been intensified in vulnerable areas and fortunately, no major incidents have been reported so far.
