A Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus heading from Bengaluru to Sringeri lost control and crashed into a house near Jayapura, between Moorugadde and Jaladurga, leaving 30 passengers injured.
The bus, which had 45 passengers on board and belonged to the Bengaluru depot, veered off the road and rammed into the residence of one Puttappa Poojary. Shanta, a woman residing in the house, was also hurt in the accident.
Ten of the injured were rushed to the government hospital in Jayapura for immediate care. Two others—including the bus driver, Venkappa—sustained more serious injuries and were referred to Koppa hospital for advanced treatment.
Locals responded swiftly, helping transport the wounded to medical facilities. Eyewitnesses blamed overspeeding as the primary cause of the accident. They also pointed out that the vehicle appeared old and may have suffered from poor maintenance.
Police have filed a case at the Jayapura police station, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
