Chikkamagaluru: Swift police action recovers stolen property
In a major breakthrough, Chikkamagaluru police arrested three Nepali nationals in connection with a house burglary and recovered stolen property valued at around Rs 1.75 crore, including gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 1.5 crore and two cars used in the crime.
The case pertains to a burglary at the residence of JDS leader H G Venkatesh at Manipur Estate in Harandooru village, where burglars stole cash and valuables early Thursday morning.
Investigation and arrests
Following the burglary, a case was registered at Koppa Police Station, and two special teams were formed under the leadership of Additional SP K T Jayakumar, supervised by Chikkamagaluru SP Vikram Amate.
The teams, working in coordination with Maharashtra Police, arrested the suspects from Sangli, Maharashtra on Friday night. The arrested individuals are:
- Rajendra Sherboy (30), Dhangadhi, Kailali district
- Ekendra Kutal Badwal (31)
- Damdi Karam Singh Bahadur
Police recovered 1.8 kg of gold, 1.2 kg of silver ornaments, and two cars used during the burglary.
Precautionary measures for residents
Authorities urged citizens to adopt safety measures to prevent such incidents:
- Avoid keeping large sums of cash or jewellery at home; use banks or safe deposits.
- Inform local police when leaving home for extended periods.
- Verify the background of domestic workers, especially those from outside the locality.
- Report suspicious activity immediately to the nearest police station.
Investigation revealed that a Nepali couple, who joined work at the house just 10 days prior, allegedly orchestrated the burglary and involved a team of accomplices. While three members have been arrested, the couple remains absconding. Police are coordinating with other state forces to apprehend them.
