A tragic incident unfolded at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, where a stampede claimed the life of Naganath Maharaj, a 48-year-old Naga Sadhu from the Chitradurga-based Banjara Gurupeetha.
Gurupeetha office-bearers confirmed his passing, leaving the community in deep sorrow. Naganath Maharaj had been residing at the Gurupeetha for the past seven years and was cherished by Sevalal Swami, who recalled his wisdom and spiritual presence.
“He was a guiding light to many. He had even invited me to join him on this pilgrimage,” said Sevalal Swami. “It remains a mystery where he originally came from, but he chose to make our Gurupeetha his home.”
Authorities in Prayagraj identified him based on the address he had registered, linking him to Karnataka. His loss has cast a shadow of grief over the Gurupeetha, as devotees remember his teachings and spiritual journey.
