The Hosadurga police have apprehended a group of inter-district cattle thieves and recovered ₹1.55 lakh in cash, along with five vehicles used in the commission of the crimes.
The arrested individuals are Taufeek (30) and Dada Peer (30) from Tippalapur village in Bhadravati taluk of Shimoga district, as well as Nawaz Pasha (26) from Aralahalli in Bhadravati taluk.
Cases have been registered against Taufeek at Hadadi Police Station in Davangere, Nawaz Pasha at Bhadravati Newtown Police Station, and Dada Peer at Bhadravati Rural Police Station for their involvement in cattle theft.
The accused had been engaged in cattle trading for several years. They planned to steal cattle by roaming around villages during the night. To avoid arousing suspicion, they utilized different vehicles for their activities including Mahindra Scorpio, Ashoka Leyland, Tata Aria, and Mahindra Zylo.
Within a week after stealing cows from various villages including Hosadurga, Srirampur, Hiriyur Rural, and Talaku Thane, they sold them for a total of ₹3.15 lakh at Holehonur and Bhadravati markets at reduced prices before dividing the proceeds among themselves.
Police have successfully recovered ₹1.55 lakh along with five vehicles used during these criminal activities. Credit goes to CPI Thimmanna, PSIs Mahesh Kumar and Bhimanagowda Patil, as well as personnel Jayaraja, Kumar, Rajanna, Thippeswamy, and Gangadhar for tracking down the accused perpetrators.
