Chittoor Tragedy: Eight Dead, 30 Injured in Bus Collision on Bengaluru Highway
A tragic road accident claimed the lives of at least eight people and left around 30 severely injured on Friday evening when an APSRTC bus collided with a truck on the Chittoor-Bengaluru highway. The majority of the deceased were pilgrims from Bengaluru, returning home after visiting the Tirumala temple. The bus, originating from the Tirupati depot, was en route to Bengaluru when it met with the tragic accident at Mogali Ghat, a location notorious for frequent accidents.
Initial investigations revealed that the driver of the APSRTC bus lost control of the vehicle, causing it to collide head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction. Adding to the severity, another truck rear-ended the bus shortly after the initial collision, exacerbating the damage.
Local authorities, including police teams and ambulances from Palamaner, Bangarupalem, and Chittoor, quickly reached the accident site. The injured passengers were immediately transferred to the Government Area Hospital in Palamaner, with some being further moved to hospitals in Bengaluru and Vellore for advanced treatment.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and assured support, including a relief package of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the deceased. Chittoor Collector Sumit Kumar confirmed the relief announcement. Authorities are currently in the process of identifying the deceased, and a formal investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
