A disturbing case of alleged student mistreatment has surfaced from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Naganool village, Nagarkurnool district. District Educational Officer (DEO) Ramesh Kumar has initiated a thorough inquiry after Class 9 student Yamini reportedly faced harsh punishment at the hands of her English teacher, Kalyani.
According to the findings, Yamini was penalized for arriving late to study hours by being forced to stand for three hours without access to water or restroom facilities. The incident reportedly left the student emotionally distraught, prompting her to self-harm by cutting her hand—triggering widespread concern among parents and officials.
DEO Ramesh Kumar, accompanied by District Girl Child Development Officer Shobharani, visited the school to investigate. They spoke extensively with teachers, staff, and students to assess the teacher’s overall behavior and gather firsthand accounts of the incident.
A detailed report of the findings has been submitted to the District Collector. In the meantime, a show cause notice has been served to the teacher involved. DEO Kumar confirmed that appropriate disciplinary action will follow upon reviewing her explanation.
This case highlights the urgent need for sensitivity and accountability in handling student discipline, especially in residential schools. Officials emphasized the importance of fostering a safe and supportive learning environment for girls.
