CM Siddaramaiah: Pourakarmikas to Be Regularised Soon
Belagavi | April 21, 2025 – Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the state government is actively moving to make all pourakarmikas (civic workers) permanent, replacing contract-based hiring with direct recruitment. Once implemented, each civic worker will receive a minimum monthly salary of ₹17,000.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Smart Kalamandir, a modern commercial hub built under the Smart City project near Tilakwadi’s First Gate, the CM reiterated that the initiative was first considered under the previous government and is now being executed. “The process is ongoing. We are committed to justice for civic workers,” he said.
He also revealed plans to provide three-wheelers for all persons with disabilities and to ensure minimum wages for panchayat drivers and operators. In terms of infrastructure, ₹6,928 crore has been allocated for Smart City projects across Karnataka, with ₹3,500 crore contributed by the state.
Urban Development Minister Byrathi Suresh added that in the coming three years, all pourakarmikas would be classified as government employees, with salaries paid directly by urban local bodies.
The CM emphasized using revenue from the newly launched Kalamandir complex to fund Belagavi’s development. He also assured enhanced compensation for land acquisition for the Halaga STP.
Local leaders including MLAs, ministers, and municipal officials attended the event, with MLA Abhay Patil requesting a ₹5 crore grant to acquire additional land for a waste treatment facility.
