Koppal: A wave of unrest swept through Kavalakeri village in Kukanur taluk after a portrait of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was found defaced with a garland made of footwear on Monday night, triggering outrage among residents.
Police from Kukanur swiftly reached the scene and removed the offensive garland. The incident came amid existing tensions over the proposed construction of a Bhagirath Circle in the village, which has led to disagreements between communities.
Members of the Madiga community alleged that the defilement was a targeted act by miscreants to insult Ambedkar amid the ongoing dispute. One suspect, Shivu from the Uppara community, has been taken into custody by the police.
On Tuesday morning, Dalit women and children took to the streets in protest, demanding justice and strict action against those responsible. The situation remains sensitive, with authorities maintaining a close watch to prevent further escalation.
