Chikkamagaluru: The town is preparing for the three-day annual Urs celebration at Shri Guru Dattatreya Bababudhan Swami Dargah Inam Dattatreya Peetha, set to begin on March 15. The religious gathering is expected to attract nearly 7,000 to 8,000 devotees from various parts of Karnataka.

To ensure smooth movement during the event, the district administration has imposed restrictions on large commercial vehicles, including long chassis and multi-axle trucks, while allowing KSRTC buses to operate as usual.

Deputy Commissioner C.N. Meena Nagaraj has also enforced a temporary ban on tourism activities in the region. For three days, popular destinations such as Mullayanagiri, Seethalayanagiri, the dargah, Galikere, and Manikyadhara will remain off-limits to tourists. This decision aims to prevent congestion on the narrow and landslide-prone roads leading to the revered shrine.

The Dattatreya Peetha has long been a sacred site, drawing both Hindu and Muslim pilgrims for worship and spiritual reflection. Authorities are taking necessary precautions to maintain order and ensure the safety of devotees during the festivities.
