Doha: In a vibrant display of unity and community spirit, eight Karnataka-based associations in Qatar came together to host a grand Sports Meet for Indian blue-collar workers on 25th July 2025 at the Pearling Sports Academy, Doha. Organised under the theme “Stronger Together Through Sports – Unity, Health & Spirit!”, the event witnessed nearly 300 workers participate with great enthusiasm and camaraderie.
A united Karnataka community effort
The event was spearheaded by Karnataka Sangha Qatar (KSQ), Karnataka Muslim Cultural Association (KMCA), Tulukoota Qatar, Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC), South Kanara Muslim Welfare Association (SKMWA), Mangalore Cultural Association (MCA), Bunts Qatar, and Billawas Qatar. All these organisations function under the Indian Cultural Center, under the aegis of the Embassy of India in Qatar.
The workers were divided into four spirited teams named after major Indian rivers — Ganga (Blue), Kaveri (Yellow), Godavari (Red), and Sindhu (Purple). Each team was mentored by representatives from the associations, infusing the competition with colour, mentorship, and motivation.
Thrilling contests and proud winners
The Sports Meet featured games such as box cricket, carom, football, volleyball, and tug of war. The football finalswere especially notable, attracting the presence of H.E. Mr. Vipul, Indian Ambassador to Qatar, and First Secretary Mr. Harish Pandey, who also attended the closing ceremony and presented awards.

Dignitaries praise the initiative
KSQ President Ravi Shetty opened the ceremony, praising the collective effort in organising the meet. First Secretary Harish Pandey appreciated the Karnataka associations for uniting for a cause that supports the wellbeing of Indian workers in Qatar.
Ambassador H.E. Mr. Vipul lauded the event:
“Despite the challenging weather, the Karnataka associations have demonstrated remarkable dedication. Sports not only build fitness but also strengthen friendships and community spirit. I am proud to be part of this event that brings joy and recognition to the hardworking members of our community.”
The closing ceremony was hosted by Chandrashekar Angadi from the Indian Sports Centre, while Kumar Swamy, KSQ General Secretary, delivered the vote of thanks.
Community support and logistics
Behind the seamless execution of the event was a long list of volunteers and supporters including Ramachandra Shetty, Anil Boloor, Saleem Ali Ullal, Sarfraz Abdul Rahman, Sandhya Rai, Rajagopal Shetty, Sachin Monteiro, and many others.
Pranav Shetty of Pearling Sports Academy was thanked for providing the venue and logistical support. American Hospital Qatar offered first aid support, and all participants were treated to snacks and dinner.
Community leaders like Mahesh Gowda, Gladson Almeida, Naveen Shetty, Aparna Sharath, Vijay Rai, and Abdul Majeed were also present, encouraging participants throughout the day.
A celebration of unity and wellbeing
The Sports Meet served as more than just a day of games — it was a symbol of unity, care, and respect for the blue-collar Indian workforce in Qatar. It highlighted how collaboration among community organisations can create meaningful, joyful experiences that uplift and empower.
