Dubai: In a vibrant show of community spirit and cultural unity, leaders of various Konkani Catholic associations came together under one roof for “EKVOT – Hand in Hand, Together We Stand,” a special meet-and-greet organised by St Mary’s Mangalorean Community (SMMC) at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Dubai. The event took place on Sunday, 27 April, at Winny’s Restaurant & Confectionery, and highlighted the shared values and vision of the Konkani Catholic diaspora.
Led by the guidance of Rev. Fr Victor Fernandes
The gathering was held under the spiritual direction of Rev. Fr Victor Fernandes, OFM Cap, Spiritual Director of SMMC, who has been instrumental in fostering community engagement and cultural dialogue among Mangalorean Catholics in the region.
The event opened with a solemn prayer led by Ms Sunitha Monteiro, Liturgical Coordinator of SMMC, followed by a warm welcome address from Mr Joseph Mathias, SMMC Coordinator. In his remarks, he emphasised the need for greater collaboration and unity among different community associations.
Associations share their vision
As the evening progressed, coordinators representing various Konkani Catholic associations presented brief introductions about their respective organisations. They shared ideas and expectations for how SMMC and other associations could work together to strengthen ties and build a more unified community.
The interactive session provided a platform for leaders to discuss future collaborations and support systems, laying the foundation for ongoing cooperation and collective action.
The meeting was ably moderated by Mr Viyon Robin Veigas, SMMC Assistant Coordinator, who underscored the event’s core message: fostering a stronger and more united community. He encouraged active participation and mutual respect among all member organisations.
Mrs Diana D’Souza, General Secretary of SMMC, proposed the vote of thanks, acknowledging the presence and contributions of all the delegates and supporters.
A shared meal and shared commitment
The event concluded with a sumptuous dinner, during which the core committee members of SMMC and visiting association leaders engaged in open-hearted conversations. The informal setting allowed for deeper connections and further dialogue on building community synergies.
The evening reflected the values of inclusiveness, cultural pride, and the spirit of unity that characterise the Konkani Catholic community. Leaders present reiterated their commitment to work together in solidarity for the broader welfare of the community.
EKVOT 2025 stood out as a significant step towards stronger engagement and mutual support within the diaspora, resonating with the central theme of walking hand-in-hand towards a shared future.
