A groundbreaking community wedding took place in Pimpri-Chinchwad on Tuesday, where five transgender women tied the knot with their male partners under the Hindu Marriage Act. The event, organized by the NGO ‘Nari The Woman’, was held at Balaji Lawns in Kalewadi, where all the traditional wedding ceremonies, including the engagement and haldi, were completed on the same day.

The couples who celebrated this milestone were Aman Gupta and Shivanya Shinde, Gaurav Londhe and Adnan Maniyar, Madhuri Vairage and Santosh Chavan, Rohini Tayade and Dheeraj Sonawane, and Akash Kasbe and Umesh Khan. Many of these couples had been in relationships for years but had faced obstacles that prevented them from marrying formally.

Shivanya, overjoyed with the wedding, shared her emotions, saying, “I was born male but always felt like a woman. Through this marriage, I’ve gained the right to live as my true self. My dream is now a reality.”

Rohini, who had been in a five-year relationship with her partner Dheeraj, expressed her gratitude, saying, “I never imagined such a wedding for the trans community could happen. Now I truly feel settled.”

Santosh, a paan shop owner, expressed his joy after years of being with Madhuri, saying, “Today, we are officially a married couple after ten years of being together. It’s a dream come true.”

The wedding was graced by social activists and politicians, including Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap, who called it a historic moment for the city, setting an example for the nation.
