Mangaluru: Mandd Sobhann presented its 291st Monthly Theatre programme, Robin Sequeira Live, at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar, drawing a large audience for an evening of literature, music and cultural celebration.

The programme began at 6.30 PM with the release of the book Amchi Mati Amchim Mo’nsham (Our Soil, Our People), authored by veteran litterateur Hemacharya and published by Ujwal Prakashan. The book was unveiled by seasoned singer Joyce Ozario. Walter Nandalike, head of the Daijiworld Media group, extended his best wishes on the occasion.

Dignitaries present on stage included Joachim Stany Alvares, President of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy; Roy Castelino, PRO of the Mangalore Diocese; Louis J. Pinto, President of Mandd Sobhann; and Ina Mascarenhas, Trustee of the Ian Care Foundation.

Formal inauguration and musical tribute

The cultural evening was officially inaugurated by comedy actor Richard Sequeira, who rang the traditional bell to mark the commencement of the programme. Secretary Ronald Crasta was also in attendance, while Arun Raj Rodrigues compered the formal ceremony.

The highlight of the evening was the musical performance led by Robin Sequeira, winner of Soad-4 and Gulf Voice of Mangalore, and a two-time recipient of the Best Male Singer award at the Global Konkani Music Awards. Inspired by the legacy of the late Eric Ozario, a group of young artistes collaborated to present the programme in a distinctive commemorative style.

On this occasion, Konkani patron Ivan Pinto Kadri honoured veteran artistes Melwyn Fernandes, Rajgopal and Roshan D’Souza in recognition of their contributions to Konkani music.

Young talents shine on stage

A special segment featured ten children — Ancel D’Costa, Duke Rodrigues, Eva Pereira, Andrick Jaden Pinto, Kate Pereira, Rae Cleon Sequeira, Luke D’Souza, Riyon Pinto, Shaan Devadiga and Shawn D’Souza — who received enthusiastic appreciation for showcasing their singing and musical talents.

Robin Sequeira was supported vocally by Zeena Pereira, Prakash D’Souza, Carol Sequeira and Meera Crasta. The musical ensemble included Derick D’Souza, Ivan Pereira, Rajgopal, Roshan D’Souza, Stephen Frank, Veekshith and Vijay Rasquinha. The Urban Groove team added vibrant dance performances, enriching the evening’s presentation.

Poet Lloyd Rego conducted the musical segment with poetic flair, adding literary elegance to the event.

Celebrating Konkani culture

The 291st Monthly Theatre programme reaffirmed Mandd Sobhann’s continued commitment to promoting Konkani language, music and literature. By blending book release, musical tribute and youth participation, the event offered a holistic cultural experience for the audience.
