January 4 marked a historic day for the Diocese of Shimoga as Bishop Francis Serrao SJ inaugurated and blessed the newly constructed Divine Mercy Church at Holalkere.
The event began with a gathering of 25 priests, 230 Catholic faithful, and invited guests, including the donor family. Fr Richard Quadros SVD cut the ceremonial ribbon, unveiling the church’s striking design. During the Holy Mass, Bishop Serrao blessed the church, its altar, ambo, and tabernacle, dedicating the space for worship.
A felicitation ceremony followed, honoring key contributors to the project, including the donors, architect, contractor, mission superior, and others. Bishop Serrao was commended for his vision in establishing the mission, and the dedicated service of priests such as Fr Roman Pinto and Fr Ronald D’Cunha was acknowledged.
Special recognition was given to Fr Stany Mariappa, the mission director, and the organizational efforts of Fr Nelson D’Souza, Fr Venil D’Silva, Fr Roshan Pinto, and the sisters. The event concluded with a communal meal shared among all attendees.
This joyous occasion stands as a testament to faith and collective effort, marking a new chapter for the Catholic community in Holalkere.
