Religious leaders have strongly opposed West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s comment referring to the Mahakumbh as “Mrityu Kumbh”, condemning it as an affront to Sanatan Dharma. The saint community has demanded an immediate apology, asserting that the Mahakumbh is not just a festival but the essence of Sanatan culture, holding immense spiritual and cultural significance.

Saint Community’s Sharp Response

Shri Mahant Jamuna Puri, National Secretary of Shri Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani, criticized Banerjee’s statement, calling it inappropriate for a leader in a constitutional position. He emphasized that the Prayagraj Mahakumbh is an “Amrit Parva” celebrated worldwide for its grandeur and holiness.

Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Arun Giri of Panch Dashnam Aavahan Akhara accused Mamata of neglecting issues in West Bengal, stating that the state has become unsafe for Sanatan followers, with thousands displaced during elections. He praised CM Yogi Adityanath for elevating the Mahakumbh to a global level.

Call for Apology & Respect for Traditions

Saint leaders, including Mahant Rajendra Das, Mahamandaleshwar Ishwar Das Maharaj, and Mahant Raju Das, denounced Banerjee’s remarks as anti-Sanatan. Swami Adhokshjanand Dev Tirth urged her to visit Prayagraj Mahakumbh to witness its spiritual magnificence firsthand.

Religious figures emphasized that politicians should refrain from making divisive statements on faith-based events.
