Sikh Family Donates Land for Mosque in Punjab, Fostering Communal Harmony

In an inspiring act of communal unity, a Sikh family in Malerkotla district, Punjab, has donated 5.5 biswas (approximately 0.1375 acres) of land for the construction of a mosque, serving the local Muslim community. Valued between ₹7 to ₹8 lakh, the donation was made by Sukhjinder Singh Noni, a former Sarpanch of Umarpura village, and his brother Avninder Singh.

Malerkotla, known for its Muslim-majority population and rich history of Sikh-Muslim harmony, witnessed this generous act as a response to the Muslim community’s lack of a local mosque, requiring them to travel elsewhere for prayers.

Mosque Foundation and Community Support

The mosque’s foundation stone was laid on January 12 by Punjab’s Shahi Imam, Mohammad Usman Rehman Ludhianvi, who praised the gesture as a testament to love and humanity. Local Sikhs further demonstrated solidarity by contributing ₹3 lakh towards the mosque’s construction.

A Legacy of Harmony

Malerkotla has long been a symbol of communal coexistence, even post-Partition, and this act reinforces the enduring bond between the Sikh and Muslim communities. Sukhjinder Singh emphasized the importance of coming together to address the needs of all, transcending religious differences.

This heartwarming gesture serves as a beacon of unity, showcasing how acts of kindness can bridge communities and foster enduring harmony.
