Contaminated Water Allegations Lead to Deaths in Marenahalli
Mandya: In Marenahalli village, KR Pet taluk, distressing reports have emerged of two deaths, including a 110-year-old woman, allegedly linked to contaminated water. Javaramma, the centenarian resident, and Kalamma from Kundur village are said to have succumbed to diarrhoea, with 17 others falling ill after drinking the water. Five individuals remain hospitalized.
District Commissioner Kumara and other officials visited the village to assess the situation. Despite villagers’ claims, DHO Dr Mohan reported that water samples are deemed safe and fit for consumption, attributing the illness to viral diarrhoea.
DC Kumara assured the villagers that a dedicated doctor and an ambulance will be stationed in the village for better medical support. He also promised action on reported unhygienic conditions.
