Contraband Crackdown: CCB Raids Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Prison
In a dramatic four-hour operation on Monday, Bengaluru’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) conducted a surprise raid on four barracks of the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, uncovering a stash of illicit items. The raid, held between 11 AM and 3 PM, targeted VIP security and Barracks A and B.
Officers from the Special Enquiry, Organised Crime Wing, Women Protection Wing, and Economic Offences Unit participated in the sweep. Seized items included chillums, ganja fillers, gutka, kasuri methi, matchboxes, bidis, Chinese-brand tobacco, cigarette packs, glue sticks, diaries, trimmers, scissors, metal rods, iron strings, lighters, cash, and even knives.
This action came in the wake of a recent incident involving Navyashree KM, a contract-based psychologist, who was caught trying to smuggle a mobile phone into the prison by hiding it in her private parts. Her accomplice, Srujan, was also arrested. City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh confirmed that a decoy had been placed inside the prison beforehand, enabling accurate intelligence gathering.
Despite repeated contraband recoveries, Singh acknowledged the prison system isn’t directly under city police control. However, he assured that future collaboration with the Prisons Department would be strengthened to curb such incidents.
This marks the second major raid within a month, following a similar operation led by DCP Sarah Fathiema.
