A 35-year-old woman, Anitha Mary, is in critical condition following a brutal machete attack by her husband, Santosh Kumar, while she was asleep at their home in Bhavani Nagar on Tuesday morning. The attack, which was reportedly motivated by suspicions of infidelity, has left Anitha’s two minor daughters in severe shock after witnessing the incident.
Kumar has been apprehended in a swift police operation and is charged with attempted murder under Section 109 of the Indian Penal Code. The complaint was filed by Kumar’s 58-year-old mother, Shantha Mary, who had been living with Anitha and her daughters out of fear for their safety.
Anitha, who works at a private insurance company, had endured harassment from Kumar for the past seven years. Six months ago, she moved away with her daughters to escape the abuse, but Kumar managed to track them down and moved into their new residence. This incident is not isolated, as there had been previous complaints against Kumar, including an earlier assault on Anitha with an iron rod.
Anitha was transported to a private hospital in Madiwala by neighbors. Kumar, who had been unemployed for the last two years, faces serious legal consequences as investigations continue.
