Investigations into the Ajekar resident Balakrishna Poojary’s murder have uncovered that accused Dilip Hegde had procured poison as early as June to kill Poojary. Hegde allegedly acquired Arsenic Trioxide from a private lab in rural Udupi, posing as a medical student in need of the substance for laboratory purposes. He later handed the poison to Poojary’s wife, Prathima, with whom he was reportedly having an affair, in a plot to eliminate Poojary that had been in the works for nearly five months.
As part of the ongoing investigation, police have questioned the lab owner, who confirmed that Hegde obtained the poison under false pretenses. Hegde, a B.Com graduate who returned to Karkala from Mumbai to oversee his family business, had limited social connections but reportedly conducted thorough online searches about poisonous substances before executing the plot.
