In a disturbing case from Bengaluru, Mukti Ranjan Rai is accused of brutally murdering his partner, Mahalakshmi, and dismembering her body into 59 pieces. The gruesome discovery was made on September 21 when her remains were found stuffed in a refrigerator. Following the murder, Rai fled to Odisha, where he later committed suicide on September 25. In a suicide note, he claimed he acted in self-defense, asserting that Mahalakshmi had planned to kill him and dispose of his body in a suitcase.
He alleged that she had been increasingly demanding and violent towards him, which he described as the catalyst for his actions. Mahalakshmi, a mother and employee at a local mall, had not been seen since September 1. Concerned neighbors reported a foul odor emanating from her apartment, prompting her family to investigate. The police traced Rai’s whereabouts to Bhadrak, Odisha, but found him deceased by the time they arrived. Investigators are currently working to compile evidence, including the analysis of the suicide note and the post-mortem report, to support their case against Rai. They continue to seek the murder weapon and further details about the relationship dynamics that led to this tragic event.
Authorities have announced plans to file a chargesheet, aiming to bring closure to this horrifying incident.
