Bengaluru police are preparing to file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the interim bail granted to actor Darshan Thogudeepa, who is accused of murder. This appeal follows the Karnataka High Court’s decision on October 30 to grant Darshan six weeks of interim bail for medical treatment, specifically for a herniated disc. Prior to his release, Darshan was held in Ballari Prison.
Commissioner of Police B. Dayanand confirmed on Friday that the Home Ministry is in the process of issuing a Government Order (GO) that will enable the police to proceed with the Supreme Court appeal.
Darshan faces accusations related to the murder of Renukaswami, a Chitradurga resident, in June 2024. The incident allegedly occurred following lewd messages sent by Renukaswami to Darshan’s girlfriend, Pavithra Gowda. Darshan, Gowda, and their associates are accused of murdering Renukaswami and disposing of his body near Kamakshipalya police station in Bengaluru.
Darshan’s prison transfer to Ballari came after a photograph surfaced showing him socializing in the prison yard, leading to concerns over prison conditions and the suspension of senior prison officials.
