BENGALURU: The murder of Kriti Kumari in Koramangala has sparked major concerns about security in paying guest (PG) accommodations across the city. The brutal incident, captured on CCTV, has highlighted severe lapses in safety protocols at these residences.
City Police Commissioner B. Dayanand has responded by ordering a comprehensive review of all PGs in Bengaluru. Police inspectors are tasked with gathering detailed data on each PG, ensuring compliance with new safety guidelines. The 13-point directive includes mandatory installation of CCTV cameras, hiring security guards, and conducting thorough background checks (KYC) on all residents. Additionally, PG owners must ensure the quality of food and report any unauthorized operations to the BBMP.
The new measures also stipulate that PG owners must register their establishments and keep their trade licenses updated. Regular monthly inspections will be carried out by local police stations to prevent any potential incidents.
Recent investigations have revealed an increase in unauthorized PGs, largely due to oversight by BBMP officials. The police have committed to notifying the BBMP about these irregularities and addressing safety concerns proactively.
As these new regulations take effect, it remains to be seen how effectively they will enhance safety in PG accommodations and prevent future tragedies.
